FINAL EXAM INFORMATION!!!

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday afternoon I was given the exam information, which I´ll put here.  READ CAREFULLY!

May 12-23:  this is the sign-up period for ALL 3 PARTS OF THE EXAM (writing, computer, oral)

Written Exam:  May 30, from 15:00 to 16:30.

Oral Exam:  June 5 & 6.  Check for the times offered.

Computer Exam:  June 2 to 12.  Check the times offered.

If somebody can´t take the exam on the days scheduled, they MUST request a change of date.  To do this, either go to Secretaría and fill out a request form, or send an e-mail to:  s.llengues.info@uab.cat  Do this as soon as possible.

All of this information can be found on the website of the Servei de Llengües.  Go to the SdL webpage, then go to the Destacats column and click on Certificats i Exámens.  All of the information you need is there.

See you in class.

C.A. 2 Information

Hi Everyone,

Please remember the following information:

First day back for Mon-Wed group:  23.04
First day back for Tues-Th group:  22.04

The C.A. oral will be on May 5 (Mon-Wed group) and May 6 (Tues-Th group).  DON´T FORGET THIS!

You must have a partner for the oral!!  There is nothing for you to prepare.  I´ll have everything prepared.  When you are not doing the oral, you will be in the Aula d´Informática doing individual work on the grammar, vocabulary and listening that you´ve been having difficulties with this year.  Look at your compositions, grammar and vocabulary exercises and workbook to identify exactly what you need to work on.

The C.A. of grammar-vocabulary and listening will be on May 7 (Mon-Wed group) and May 8 (Tues-Th group).

Have a wonderful Spring Break!

WORKBOOK, UNITS 3 & 4

Hi Everyone,

Here are the dates to give me your workbooks, Units 3 & 4:

Monday & Wednesday group:  Wednesday April 23rd
Tuesday & Thursday group:  Thursday April 24th.

Remember:

1.  Do all of the exercises EXCEPT FOR THE PRONUNCIATION ONES.  You may do them if you wish, but I won´t look at them.  DON´T BE LATE!!  Remember, you must give me your book report the first week back from Semana Santa, so don´t wait to do this work.

2.  CHECK YOUR ANSWERS BEFORE YOU GIVE ME YOUR WORKBOOK!!  I need to immediately see if there are any general problems, and I can´t do that if I have to check your answers myself.

Thanks.  Have a good weekend.

Pronunciation Practice!!

Hi Everyone,

Here are two websites for pronunciation practice.  Not all words are available, but all sounds are there.

wordreference.com -- This website has BOTH British and American pronunciations.  Choose one to use, but recognize both.

howjsay.com -- This site is only with British pronunciation, as far as I know.  It´s also valid.

Try these, AT HOME, and if there is any problem with a particular sound, ask me and I can help you out.

Thanks,

Chuck

3-WEEK-BREAK HOMEWORK!!

Hi Everyone,

This week, beginning on Jan. 13th, is the last week of classes before the Servei takes a 3-week break.  Remember that the first week is for tutorials, and you can find the sign-up sheets in our classroom.

I want all of you to watch the following videos, which you can find at TED.COM.  All 3 are less than 6 minutes long and can be found by writing their names in the "Search" space.  Here they are:

1.  Bastian Schaefer, who entitles his talk:  "A 3D-Printed Jumbo Jet"
2.  Paolo Cardini, who entitles his talk:  "Forget Multitasking, Try Monotasking"
3.  Lucy McRae, who entitles her talk:  "How Can Technology Transform the Human Body?"

The first two speakers are non-native speakers of English and make one or two grammatical mistakes, but there is no problem in understanding them.  The third speaker is from Great Britain.

Watch these videos as many times as you want, but the first two times without any subtitles.  Then, you may use ENGLISH subtitles if you wish.

Paper:  After watching these videos, which talk about technology and the future, give me your opinion about the positive and negative aspects of this technology, and also try to imagine what kind of technological advances we´ll have in 10 years which will help us in our daily lives, both personally and professionally.  If you have any questions, ask me now!!  You will give me the papers on the first day back after the break.  Write a minimum of 300 words, and a maximum of 450 words.  Thanks.

TUTORIALS IN JANUARY!!

Hi Everyone,

Welcome back!  It´s now 2014 and everyone is happy.  This note is to tell you about our tutorials and when they will be.

Monday & Wednesday group:  20.01 & 22.01
Tuesday & Thursday group:  21.01 & 23.01

Each student will sign up for ONE of the two days for a tutorial, which will last 12 to 15 minutes.  This is not obligatory, but I believe it is a very good idea and I strongly suggest it.  Thanks.
